For some years now the Essex Folk Association has been organising a workshop for Kentucky running set. Despite the name, it does not involve running and Cecil Sharp described the dancing as "so smooth that the dancers seemed at times to be moving, or gliding, on wheels".

There are two types of set; the one we use is for square sets of 4 couples. Since a dance session may be for, say, 20 - 30 minutes or so, with only about 4 sessions during the afternoon, we have to try very hard to get complete sets with no-one sitting out. Moreover the hall we use is small and we can fit in only 3 square sets. Thus advance registration is essential. It is quite a job to juggle the numbers!

Dancers who have some experience and who can follow a call quickly will pick up the figures and style quite quickly. Those who would like to try will be welcome. Those who come seem to find it very enjoyable.

(This list is chronological order of registering, it does not imply the arrangement into sets,

which the dancers will decide for themselves on the day)
